Myself;Yourself (Anime Review)

Name of anime: Myself ; Yourself

Genre: Friendship, Romance, Slice-of-life, Tragedy

No. of episodes: 13

Review: If you paid attention before, I wrote ‘Friendship’ in the genre column, that’s because there’s no other base to explain this anime except friendship. This anime helps us all remember that even though we say we will be like this or everything should stay like this forever, that never comes true; because someday, something will change, that’s the absolute law of nature. The story is based on five friends, Sana, Nanaka, Aoi, Shuri and Shuusuke. The anime starts with Sana moving away from his hometown and his friends throwing a small farewell party for him. After having much gift exchange, Sana promises everyone that he will come back. Five years later, he comes back and believes that everything is like before, but gradually he understands that even though their friendship is like before, or more like, even deeper than before, but still everything is not the same. The story also focuses on tragedy that takes place in everyone’s life (Except Aoi) and how they try to overcome them. There are other characters that also play a vital role in the plot development of the story. Personally, I think that at that time (When the anime was created) anime wasn’t at its pinnacle; the main reason for that maybe is their unnecessary use of blood and scary BGM. The same thing took place in this anime, to stress on tragedy, the creator used unnecessary blood, which added to this anime’s negative point.

Weakness: Well, this anime is not something that can touch someone’s heart.
1) Maybe it was made in the late 90s, that’s why the animation quality isn’t good. This adds to the fact that it doesn’t seem quite appealing.
2) The story is not so long, but still to make it a little bit lengthier, there are two or three episodes that doesn’t contribute even a bit to the story.
3) The love story between Sana and Nanaka wasn’t showed smoothly.

Best scene: You know what makes me happy? Reunion. That’s why, the best scene in this anime is the ending, where everyone was shown all grown up and, secretly though, there was a reunion of all the friends. Why did I use secretly? Watch the anime to find out 😉

Rating: Well, if the anime quality was better and there was a little more depth and clarification in the story, then I swear to god, this anime would have become my all time favourite. But since it didn’t, I rate it 7.0 out of 10

  1. I quite enjoyed this but it was very forgettable. Even now, after reading your review, I remember enjoying watching this and still barely remember any details about it, other than it being a little bit depressing at times but also fairly moving.
    Thanks for sharing.
