Celebrating The First Anniversary of This Blog!!

It was just another day of the week when I decided to log in to WordPress, but as soon as I checked the notification tab, I realized that today is actually a day that needs to be celebrated. This day marks as the first anniversary of my blog, Ryuji’s Anime Review. I really have a hard time believing that it’s already a year old now.

I still remember the day I decided to start this blog. It was around 5 to 6 PM when I just finished watching ‘Your lie in April’. At that time, I had a habit of discussing the pros and cons of anime I finished watching in a closed room; however that day, my mother walked in and on seeing me talking about anime to myself with such enthusiasm, she advised me to start a blog about anime. To be honest, I was looking for a platform to talk about this stuff in a more official way, so I didn’t hesitated much into searching for a site to do it; and within two hours, I had posted my first post of my site, Ryuji’s anime review. Thanks to all of you for following my blog and giving me the strength to continue.

So what have I planned to do for today? Even though it’s not something really grand, I do hope that you guys would have fun reading this Anniversary special issue. At first, I will be sharing with you guys, some facts related to my blog, followed by some of my posts which I actually enjoyed writing (Told ya, not much). So without any further delay, let’s get right into it!!

  • Even though my first post was made in 29th of July, my blog actually became active in the month of September, when I started writing anime reviews more often.
  • At first, the name of the blog was ‘Chat with Ryuuji’, but after a while, when I realized that my reviews are hardly anything like a nice chat, I changed it into Ryuji’s Anime Review. Though I think I might change this name again as my blogs aren’t only about anime anymore.
  • I used to have a page where I decided to update my Top 10 anime list every month. But I never actually updated it and the rankings remained stuck in their for 8 months, before I finally deleted it.
  • I actually tried to manage a second site known as ‘Ultodurbin’ for some weeks but then I decided to focus more on my main site and didn’t post for a while in Ultodurbin. Presently, my mother manages that site and posts some of her photography occasionally (Shameless publicity: Do check her out here).
  • I had no idea that I could use GIF images in a post until December. The same goes for using the VLC screenshot feature too (I used Google Images for pics in the earlier posts).
  • The Ryuji’s Anime Review site has changed its layout more than 10 times, the current one has survived for the longest period of 4 months.
  • The day I got my first award, I skipped the nomination part of the post at first because I thought that there was no way for me to be in that list (I found that out later when I was linked to the post).
  • The ‘30 Days of Anime Challenge’ actually got finished in 28 days instead of 30 (I cheated a lot XD).
  • My first completed Episodic review was ‘Kuzu no Honkai’ I tried to write episodic reviews of some series earlier, a couple of times, but they were never completed.

Well I hope that you enjoyed these facts (I don’t know why I wanted to share them but meh). Moving on, I will be talking about some of the posts that I really enjoyed writing and got pretty good response from you guys as well, be sure to check them out later if you haven’t!

  • Your lie in April (Anime Review): The reason I have included this post here is pretty obvious, isn’t it? Because no matter how much my blog and my experience develop, I actually started from this little review of a great anime. When I read it again, I realized that the way I wrote this anime is pretty amateur-ish (Which it still is but to be honest, it’s comparatively better now), it really was fun going down the memory lane and see how much I have grown up.
  • How I came to love Anime: Next up, is a post which is really really close to my heart. Maybe I was feeling nostalgic that day or something, whatever the reason might be, I took the time to write down my feelings here and I really am lucky as it got great reactions from you guys. This post, which shows how I got in contact with the anime culture and how far I have come since then, is the most viewed post of my site and to be honest, I really can’t thank you guys enough for stating your thoughts clearly in that post.
  • Some Anime Cliches ( 1, 2): Maybe one of the most appreciated works of mine, the ‘Some Anime Cliches’ series were the reason I got a sudden boost in the number of followers as well as views in my blog. While I want to post more of the same pattern but this time of different genre, I want to be sure that I could surpass these posts by a long shot.
  • A Look Back On 2016 While this post didn’t get as much views and likes as the other posts, I personally enjoyed creating it. Not just the post was really lengthy but the picture collage that I decided to try out took a huge load of my time (I actually stole the idea of collage from D….. thanks for the idea bro XD). Well, after this post, I didn’t tried to do the collage work again, but I do have to admit that if I weren’t so lazy, my posts would look really good (Just like it did with D and other fellow bloggers).
  • A Big surprise: Sunshine Blogger Award: Lastly, I slipped in my first award reaction post. This post meant a lot to me, mostly because it was at that time I realized (I fucked up…. Sorry I couldn’t resist that XD), that my works are actually being spread out to other bloggers out there. It made me feel that there are some peoples who actually enjoy reading my posts and that it’s not worthless. That moment, when I found out that I got an award, was one of the one of the greatest moments of my life!

That sums up my First Anniversary post of this blog. I would like to thank all of you for being there for me all these days and for appreciating my work and encouraging me to write more. This is just a small step for a better future of this blog and I hope that you guys will be there to see this through. Thanks a lot!

A Mysterious Award To Keep Me Going

It’s the first time I have been so late in doing the award posts, sorry for that. A huge load of thanks to D Talks Anime  for nominating me for this award, it means a lot to me. Believe it or not, it’s a pretty tough question. I guess I will have to say that I like the night-time. Thanks to my exams, I am allowed to stay up late and boy isn’t it fun! At that time, there are no sounds, no cranky neighbour, and no household duty…. just peaceful, silent night.

  • What’s your favourite ice cream flavour?

I don’t like sweet things and try to avoid them as much as I can; ice cream is therefore no exception. However, if someone offers me, I guess I will go with plain Vanilla or Chocolate flavour.

  • If you could kill someone without any repercussions, would you? (This is the weird one)

If there’s no result of all the efforts I put in then I don’t think it’s worth my time. But wait! It also means I can torture him for as much as I can……. *Grins* Ehehehhehehe….. Ahem! On second thought, I can give it a try… *Grins again*

  • Are you a morning person?

Wew…… Mornings are hard, I hate them! It’s a pain to wake up early. I personally believe that the government should declare it a crime to try to wake anyone up before 12 PM. WE DESERVE TO SLEEP LATE!!!

  • Name your celebrity crush (if you have one)

Celebrity crush, huh? That has to be Priyanka Chopra. I have been her fan since forever, her acting is amazing, her style is amazing, and her looks are amazing, her body is amazing….. SHE IS THE PERSONIFICATION OF AMAZING!!
    *Cough* Excuse my fan side!

My Nominees Are:

My Questions Are:

  1. If you could torture your bitter enemy, how would you do it? (Wew…. weird questions for the win)
  2. Do you believe in spirits and afterlife?

  4. What’s your favourite book/anime? Why?
  5. If you had 2 hours to live what would you do?

That sums up my award response post! Thanks again for rewarding me with such a great award. Wew….. it seems like I have to post more often. As soon as my exams are over, I will be sure to post lots and lots of new posts for you guys. Thanks for reading!

A Lovely Award from a Lovely Blogger!

So it was an usual day where I was scrolling through the Readers section when I stumbled across an award response post by Ava and guess what I saw there, A nomination for the ‘One lovely blog award’!!

First of all, thank you so much Ava for this really lovely award! If you guys don’t know her (Which I guess is impossible), then don’t waste your time here and check out her really awesome posts! She writes great things about books and anime which has never stopped amazing me. That’s how great of a blogger she is and I hope that she will continue give us more quality works and be even more admired in the blogging sphere.

  • Thank the person who nominated you and link their blog
  • Add the One Lovely Blog Award to your post
  • Share 7 things about yourself
  • Pass this on to as many people as you like (max 15)
  • Include this set of rules
  • Inform your nominees

  1. I’m a student of class 10 and by the beginning of March, I have this super important exams called the ICSE Board exams. Since it’s my first major examination, I’m kind of freaked out about it and I quite resent the fact that I have to study day and night for this. (Get me out of this hellish torture!!)
  2. When I was an eight year old kid, I caught the first glimpse of anime, it was a slight ecchi scene from some anime I don’t have any idea of (A panty shot), and my thought at that time was, “If I watch these things, I’m gonna turn into a bad boy”and I turned off the T.V. Thanks for that Fan-service!
  3. I like music, especially rock ones and I can’t help but hum or whistle to the tune most of the time. But when someone tells me to sing a song or whistle for them, I do whatever it takes to make sure that…….. I don’t have to sing for him/her. I only sing for myself, MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
  4. Whenever I have to list something, regarding anime, music or any other stuff, I have a hard time writing the first name on the list. However, once I manage to do that, I flood the page with an incredible amount of contents and then bang my head on the wall for not being able to write more. I wonder where that power goes during examinations.
  5. I love to learn new language. Whenever I get a chance to learn one or two words of a different language or the whole thing, I can’t help but feel motivated to do that. Right now, I can speak 4 languages and I’m trying my best to add Japanese and Filipino to the list. (Just started learning Filipino though)
  6. I have a habit of making anything I write, big in length. Get it? I mean that if I had to write a small sentence of maybe five or six words, I will somehow convert it into a big sentence of twenty words. I always exceed the word limit while writing any kind of essay or letter (In English), maybe that’s why my teacher says that I might become a novelist.

7.I have a way with words. Every time I get stuck in some kind of stupid argument, I somehow turn the tables against the accuser and by the time I’m finished, I make him/her feel guilty for what he said to me. In short, I get away from tricky situations most of the time due to my ability of smooth talking.

If you guys have been nominated before then feel free to ignore this post.

  1. Acacia Aurora
  2. JAPANime talks

  8. Renxkyouko
  9. Dad Watches Anime

Once again, thank you so much for the award Ava, it means a lot to me.

Fifty plus Fifty equals…. 1100?

My teacher once told me that I was weak in Maths and that I should work on that; but it has been 12 years since that advice and yet I’m that one person who loves Math but is weak in it. Oh but don’t relate this little tale with the title as the title makes perfect sense to what I am about to tell you all. This post is to share with you all, a milestone that I have just achieved.

Today, as I make the 50th post of the blog “Ryuji Tatsuya’s Anime Review”, the number of followers reached the milestone of 50 while the number of views keeps on increasing after crossing the mark of 1100. This day also marks as the 6th months’ anniversary of our blog. (Coincidence? I don’t think so)

My face when I think what to write about

So there I stood, thinking what should I post which will make all of you guys go into a nostalgic ride, no matter how long it has been since you have been here in WordPress, and that’s when it hit me! I decided to write about some of those delightful emotions that we keep on encountering as we grow as a blogger. Now this list is limited to only those which have been experienced by me till now, but if you want to add something in it, then be sure to do so. So, without any further delay, LET’S GET RIGHT INTO IT!

Remember that time, when you had no idea about what blogging would be like but still you had this emotion of telling the whole world how you feel? Well, blogging may not be as popular and mainstream like YouTube, but admit it, while you were posting your first ever blog, the main feeling in your heart was ‘EXCITEMENT’. Even though we had no idea about how the blog would look like or how to do anything in this foreign land, when we first clicked on that little blue publish button at the top left, all we had was a sense of accomplishment and pride!

The first like on the post of any blogger is something that they treasure for life. Even though, unlike comments and follows, it isn’t something that we could tell everyone with pride, but it is something that stays in our heart forever as our first ever achievement in this field. The ‘Like’ button in our site is something that stays there unnoticed, most of the time, but we all know it that it is this like which acted as a foundation for our morale and encouragement in the early days.

At first when we created our blog, we just wanted it to be done as soon as possible so that we can voice our opinions to everyone we can reach to, as a result the theme we chose or the way we created our pages gave off an amateur feeling to it. (Dunno about you guys, but my webpage is still not how I imagine it to be) However, as we kept on writing more and more, there came a time when we tried to sneak a peek at how it looked as the finished product and I remember my exact words after seeing it was, “Ewwww! This is the worst webpage ever!” Funny, isn’t it!

Now, when we saw how our blog, which seemed so good before, has turned into a living nightmare, there’s only one thing that we could do, A RENOVATION OF THE SITE. Thanks to the easy features of WordPress, it is easy to apply changes without much thought, but it wasn’t easy to master them. Still, when we renovated the site for the first time, by changing its theme or adding some more widgets, all we could say after we finished it was that we have done a great job! (Fun fact: I have changed my blog’s theme at least 7 times lol)

You know how whenever you complete some kind of mission in a game, a small dialogue box would come up and tell you that you have done a good job, that’s what I felt like when I got my first follower. At that time, I felt like that finally there is someone who is reading my posts, yeah I know that I should have got that feeling already as my post received one or two likes, but still that feeling was something completely different. I’m sure you guys know what I’m talking about!

Now what I’m going to talk about is something which, for me at least, holds the most treasured feeling of all and that is the time when I got my first comment. Now that I look back on it, that post doesn’t seems to be all that amazing, but at that time (Even though it was only 6 months before) it was the best I could deliver and when someone said that they liked it and sent me their own views, I was in cloud nine. Even today, if there are notifications, nothing can please me more than a comment; it doesn’t matter if it’s a small one, as long as what I say to my viewers is delivered and a new message is received, I’m happy!

I remember it being a normal day at WordPress, I think just a month before, and I was scrolling through the readers’ column and searching for some good article. Suddenly, I saw something which seemed to be a bit interesting, I saw an award post. Now, I was very happy for the receiver of the award but inside my mind, I was hoping for my name to be in the nomination list and to my surprise there it was, my name, written in bold in the nominated list. My first award was ‘The Sunshine Blogger Award’. To receive an award was like a bonus for me. I was appreciated for my effort and that’s the proof that I was nominated. Nothing in the world would be able to describe my feeling at that time.

After all these small but precious moments, at last here we are with me telling you all about my first milestone in blogging. This moment serves as nothing other than another achievement, now all I can do is accept this honour and continue serving our duty by keeping on writing about what we like the most, Anime.

Let’s keep on doing what we love!!

So, in the end I would like to thank all of my followers once again, for helping me grow up and turn me into an upgraded version of Ryuji. Right now, I want to say this one last thing, THANK YOU VERY MUCH….. LOVE YOU ALL!!!

A New Year… A New Award!

First of all, I would like to thank Rocco B for nominating me for this award. He’s a really cool guy and his blogs are cooler, please go and check out his awesome blogs! 🙂

The rules:

  • Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog
  • Give a brief story of how your blog started
  • Give two pieces of advice for new bloggers
  • Select at most 15 other blogs you want to give the award to!

I’m that kind of guy who would not get serious in many issues but may get serious about some pretty normal  things. My story of starting this blog isn’t that flawless and out of the world, it’s just a normal story of how I got serious about a petty thing and luck favoured my seriousness. Not so long ago, I was the admin of this group in Facebook called ‘The Descendants of Anime’, since I was joking around with the group, it didn’t gained any popularity. One day, I decided to post a review of an anime I recently watched, I don’t know if it was destiny or not, but it gained much support from my friends there. I became regular in writing those reviews but, my group didn’t get that height and unfortunately, due to some events, my account was blocked permanently and I lost all my reviews. Now, some of my good friends advised me to keep on doing those reviews and sent me link to WordPress, and that’s how I finally started the blog “Ryuji’s anime review”

Love those followers:

I’m still a novice when it comes to blogging but so far I have understood one thing, that is, you won’t last many days here if you neglect those who are following you. For bloggers, the one who should get the most importance are the followers, because if they were not here for you, then you wouldn’t have got all those views and likes which you are enjoying right now. Go check out their blogs, reward their efforts by liking and commenting, cause you should know more than anyone else that the most happy moment for us is when we get appreciated for our hard work. So, yeah, show those followers some love!

Stay optimistic:

What I’m going to talk about now is something that most of us have gone through during the start of their blogging days; the phase when we do not get enough views and likes. Now this is the hardest phase of blogging as you don’t have that popularity and often your post goes up with one or two likes. My sole advice to those who are going through this phase is that YOU SHOULD NOT THINK ABOUT QUITTING . Even if it seems like your hard work will go unrewarded, don’t get discouraged and keep on doing your job. Trust me, there will come a day when your popularity will boom up, and when that day comes, you will be rewarded by a scale which you might have never imagined. Just hang in there buddy!

It’s almost time for me to pass this award to the others. The Blogger Recognition award goes to:

So that sums this post making the Blogger Recognition Award, an official one. Thanks for nominating me In The Cubbyhole and thanks to all of you guys for supporting me!

Another Surprise: The Unique Blogger Award

I got the award a couple of days back, but I didn’t get a chance to do the honors then coz I got a little bit busy. But now, Let’s do it!

Alright first, Thanks WeeaboOtaku for the nomination. He’s a really cool guy and the stuffs that he posts in his blog are even more cooler. He posts reviews on anime, Japanese drama and also Japanese movies which are really awesome. Please go and check out his blogs.

The Rules

  • Share the link of the blogger who has shown love to you by nominating you
  • Answer the questions
  • In the spirit of sharing love and solidarity with our blogging family, nominate 8-13 people for the same award
  • Ask them three questions

  • What anime character do you most relate to and why?

That’s a really good question. Well there would be a bunch of anime characters to whom we can all somehow relate to, but if I were to pick one then it probably would be Ryuji Takasu from Toradora. His situation is almost like me and most of the hobbies and attitude he has is greatly relatable to me. Even though there are some big differences between his luck and mine, it’s still the character I can relate to the most.

  • What fictional setting/universe would you most like to live in?

Hmm…. I have answered that many times. I’m not the kind of guy who would just run around saying that I would like to be in a Ghouls’ world or Titan’s world, but sometimes I have wished to live in a fictional universe. So, if I ever could, I would like to stay in a world with ninjas and my best move is gotta be Rasengan, or so I hope? :p

  • If you could swap lives with one person, real or fictional, who would it be and why?

It took me exactly 10 minutes to think that over. Even though I love my life as it is, if I had to swap lives, then it would be Issei from High school DXD. Need I say why? I mean, almost every guy out there knows the reason. Even though there had been many Harem and Ecchi protagonists in the anime history, only Issei is the one who didn’t turned out to be a dense one. So, yeah, Issei’s life could be a good life to swap.

  • Reads, Rhythms and Ruminations
  • Kurumi Shim
  • Animetai

  • Ignite 18
  • Rocco B

My turn to ask Questions:

  • Do you follow any Youtube Channel? If yes, then who is your favorite Youtuber?
  • What is your top 5 horror anime of all times?
  • Who is your anime crush? If you were given a choice to live with him/her but abandon all your family and friends, what would you do?

So with that, my formalities of passing on the legacy of the Unique Blogger award is done. Feel free to leave your views in the comment section. Thanks for reading this blog!

A Big surprise: Sunshine Blogger Award

Whoa! I got an award?! Really? Well then, let’s get on to it, shall we?

First of all, I would like to thank Ma. Venus Gamboa for nominating me. I haven’t been following JAPANime Talks for long, but from what I have seen so far is that there are some really quality stuffs to look out for. Please go and check out the blog, it’s worth the effort, I guarantee it.

  • Thank the person who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you.
  • Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write then 11 new questions.
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.

Anyway, so now moving on to the questions. *Cracks fingers* Oh~ It’s gonna be interesting!

JAPANime Talks’ Question:

  1. Hisoka or Chrollo? And why?

Hisoka, of course! He has this sadomasochistic personality and is a really badass character. I love it when someone goes berserk in a fight but in the end appreciates strong opponents. If I had to pick the best antagonist, then it would surely be Hisoka.

  2. What were the most thought-provoking anime / manga you’ve watched/ read?

I don’t actually watch much thought-provoking or psychological anime in general. But my first completed anime series happened to be of this genre and that anime, for me, still rules this genre. The anime is, Death Note. I really REALLY love Death note as a psychological thriller anime.

  3. What was the most overrated AND underrated anime series you’ve encountered?

Hmm.. the most overrated anime for me would be One Punch man. The biggest problem with this anime is that people consider it to be the best anime ever, when really, the original manga author only made the series as a JOKE to MOCK other shonen anime for laughs.

As for the most underrated anime, I would say ‘Seitokai Yakuindomo’. I mean this show is underrated because everyone thinks that it is one of those ecchi anime with boobs and all. But no! Sure, it has all dirty jokes, but it is devoid from all those ecchi scenes making it an anime for pure laughter.

  4. If given a chance to rewrite a part of the Naruto series, which character death would you have prevented? Why? If none, why?

I would actually prevent the death of Zabusa and Haku, yup, the first villains. At first, they seemed really awful, but by the end of the arc I was totally wishing for them to live, but in the end, it was all for vain. And yeah, if possible, I would also like to change Haku from a trap, to a girl. :p

  5. Have you done something so uncharacteristically hilarious in the name of anime? If yes, what is it?

Yup, I remember this one time I went to my best friend’s house with one other guy to hang out. So, when we were there the lights went off, so my best friend decided to play catch outside. After 3 rounds, two of them decided to drink some water while I remained outside and waited for them. Since they were taking time, I decided to do something INCREDIBLY STUPID. I took the ball in my hand, faced a tree and screamed “RASENGAN!!!!” while attacking the tree. To my horror, when I looked to my sides, I saw my friends standing there and his parents looking out of their window. Everyone’s face was like, “WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU???”

  6. IF, by some astronomically thin chance, anime and manga gets banned, what would be the FIRST THING you’ll do?

Kill the one who made that decision. That’s it! Problem solved.

  7. Who’s your favourite FEMALE anime character of all times? Why?

I wrote it in my anime crushes. My favourite female character is Holo from ‘Spice and Wolf’ coz she is really a beauty. Have you seen her? She looks like a wolf version of the Aphrodite! But even if we leave that part, I still like her brains in business and her perfect seduction techniques.

  8. What’s your primary motivation for blogging?

Blogging is just a fun hobby for me where I can show what I feel without any hesitation. My principal motivation for blogging is my aim to reach 200 followers and to show my parents that watching anime does have some positive sides and is not a waste of time.

  9. If given a chance to team up with another anime blogger for an awesome blog post, who will it be? Why?

If I were to team up with another anime blogger then it would surely be Karandi, coz she has been there for as long as I have been writing blogs and manages a really fantastic blog with great dedication.

  10. What’s the most exotic food you’ve tasted so far?

I once had Tungtap from a place called Meghalaya which is India. Tungtap is a dry version of the famous fish paste that is such an integral part of the daily meals of the localities. No traditional lunch in Meghalaya is complete without a serving of the Tungtap which is made of burnt onions, fresh green chilies and Raja Mirchi.

  11. What was that thing you did that you’re most proud of?

Honestly, I can’t think of anything that I’m proud of. Really, it’s not like I did nothing, but still I’m not the kind of the person to be proud of anything and hold on to that for some time. So sorry, but I have nothing in my mind.

And now for the NOMINEES (Yay~):

The Nominees are:

Now it’s my turn….

  1. What was the first anime you ever watched?
  2. If you had to make one wish right now, what would it be?
  3. What is your favourite and least favourite anime?
  4. Have you ever been in a really awkward situation? If yes, tell us about it.
  5. Which anime death has been the most tragic to you? Why?
  6. Have you dated someone? If no, what is your ideal girl/boy?
  7. What is your three recommended ecchi anime?
  8. If you could order season 2 of any one anime, which one would it be?
  9. Do you have any anime crush? If yes, then what do you like about him/her? If no, then which anime character would you nominate to get that post?
  10.  Have you ever turned any friend of yours into an Otaku?
  11. Last but not the least, How was your experience in blogging so far?

Now then, I would once again thank Venus for nominating me. If you have already been nominated for this award then there’s no obligation. Feel free to comment the answers in the question if you want.
